Safety and Resilience Improvements on a Key State Highway Link
The Loop Road South Construction project delivers critical safety and resilience upgrades at the SH1 and Loop Road (SH15) intersection, a key transport link between Auckland and Whangārei carrying approximately 19,000 vehicles per day, including high volumes of freight and forestry traffic.
Stellar Projects was engaged as Project Manager to deliver comprehensive safety improvements, including the construction of a new bridge east of the existing structure, designed to modern standards with resilience to climate change and sea level rise. The project also includes a new four‑lane road layout and extensive ground improvements along the Ōtaika River.

The works required complex geotechnical solutions, including substantial rock armouring to protect the bridge and surrounding infrastructure. Stellar Projects coordinated closely with ecologists and tangata whenua to ensure environmental and cultural values were protected throughout construction. Valued at $41.4 million, the project will significantly improve safety, reliability, and efficiency across the state highway network south of Whangārei.
