The Downtown Infrastructure Development Project (DIDP) was one of Auckland’s most extensive urban redevelopment initiatives.
Its goal was to enhance and future-proof the waterfront area, public transport facilities, and pedestrian pathways of the city. The project required careful planning, complex coordination among various stakeholders, and integration with nearby construction programs.
Stellar Projects was appointed as the Project Manager for the Quay Street redevelopment in Auckland’s central business district. This role involved overseeing the project from the developed design phase through development, detailing, and construction. It required effective coordination with various stakeholders. Throughout the project, there were several utility complications that necessitated relocations, and construction was conducted in phases to align with adjacent projects.
Stellar Projects collaborated closely with all relevant stakeholders to ensure that buildability and construction considerations were incorporated into the Issue For Construction (IFC) drawings. They also worked on establishing the staging, sequencing, and alignment of design deliverables in advance of the planned physical works. The project was successfully completed within budget and on schedule, despite delays caused by the Covid pandemic and supply complications during construction. Traffic impacts were effectively managed, preventing any significant incidents. The project achieved the redevelopment of the Quay Street/coastal interface, a high-quality streetscape and enhanced community/ pedestrian connectivity.
Our involvement in the project highlighted several key takeaways:
- Effective communication with all relevant stakeholders from the beginning is crucial for streamlined decisionmaking.
- Ensuring that the necessary approvers are engaged from the start allows for prompt and informed decisions, helping to avoid lengthy delays.
