City Rail Link (CRL) - Transforming Auckland’s Rail NetworkThe City Rail Link (CRL) is a world‑class rail infrastructure project that will better connect Auckland’s entire rail network, increasing capacity and making journeys faster and more reliable. At $5.493 billion, it is the largest transport infrastructure project ever delivered in New Zealand.

A City‑Shaping Infrastructure ProjectCRL comprises twin 3.45‑kilometre tunnels constructed up to 42 metres beneath the Auckland city centre, connecting Waitematā Station with the redeveloped Maungawhau Station on the Western Line. Two new underground stations - Karanga‑a‑Hape and Te Waihorotiu - will significantly improve central city access. The project is jointly funded by the Crown and Auckland Council.

Multi‑disciplinary Delivery Over a DecadeStellar Projects team members supported the delivery of CRL across 13 packages of work, from the commencement of construction in 2016 through to the completion of physical works in 2025. Our long‑term involvement reflects the depth of our multi‑disciplinary expertise and the trust built with three client organisations through sustained, repeat engagements across multiple disciplines.

End‑to‑End Project SupportOver a ten‑year period, Stellar Projects provided end‑to‑end delivery support, including procurement assistance, construction management, and development response services, contributing to the successful delivery of New Zealand’s most complex transport infrastructure project.

Development Response Leadership

A key highlight of our involvement was advocating for and delivering a comprehensive development response approach. First piloted on Albert Street in 2017, this approach was later embedded within delivery plans for all three Link Alliance stations between 2019 and 2025. These initiatives improved stakeholder relationships, enhanced pedestrian experiences around construction sites, and increased support for affected businesses.
