Securing Water Resilience: Delivering Large-Scale Pipeline Infrastructure for Kaitāia
Boosting Kaitāia’s water resilience and reducing reliance on the Awanui River has long been a priority for Far North District Council. The Kaitāia Water Project delivered a step change in supply security.
Stellar Projects provided full project management services for the design and construction of a 14km water transfer pipeline, linking production bores at Sweetwater to the Kaitāia Water Treatment Plant.
Our role covered contract administration, construction monitoring, coordination of design consultants, cost tracking, programme management, and progress reporting. We also managed resource consent compliance and stakeholder engagement, including coordination with landowners along the pipeline route.
The project was delivered on programme and under budget, strengthening the town’s potable water supply, supporting regional workforce capability, and contributing to economic recovery.
Highlights
We are extremely proud of the delivery team’s achievements, including commissioning two production water bores and completing a 14km pipeline, 90% of which needed horizontal drilling. The team also successfully completed two river crossings with engineered brackets and new wingwalls, along with a 38-metre triangular truss bridge for the Bonnetts Road pipeline.
